Accessible entry requirements depend on the pool
For pools covered by the new-construction or alteration requirements, Section 242.2 of the 2010 ADA Standards generally requires two accessible entries at 300 linear feet of pool wall or more. Below 300 feet, its exception permits one lift or sloped entry. Other exceptions may apply.

- Less than 300 ft of wallOne accessible means of entry: a pool lift or a sloped entry.
- 300 ft of wall or moreTwo accessible means of entry; at least one is a pool lift or sloped entry.
- Ready during open hoursA lift must be at poolside and working whenever the pool is open.
- Charged and maintainedBatteries charged and the lift serviced so it works when needed.
Existing public-accommodation pools have readily achievable barrier-removal obligations; public entities have program-accessibility obligations. Your property manager should confirm ADA coverage and applicable exceptions. Sources: 2010 ADA Standards, Section 242.2; ADA.gov, Accessible pools: means of entry and exit. Does my HOA or apartment pool need a lift?
ADA coverage depends on the property and how the pool is used; HOA or apartment status alone does not settle it. Covered new or altered pools follow the applicable design standards. Existing public accommodations have readily achievable barrier-removal duties, while public entities have program-accessibility duties. Your management company should confirm what applies before choosing an entry solution.
